I bought these to suppliment the bottled water my son and I were going through(it's amazing how much water a 17 yr old boy drinks even when he takes a couple of sips and opens another bottle because he forgot he had one open). Our water is hard and sometimes has a smell and since I've been going through cancer treatment I've been trying to be a little more concious of things like this. I've had these pitchers before, but something happened to it and I'm glad I eventually bought another. I recommend this highly if you have problems with your tap water, or if you have a well(which my paternal grandparents did on their farm).
