I have a Brita water cooler that uses two of these filters. I change them every 4-6 months and that's only because I feel guilty. The water tastes great and no particles. The water even tastes better then the water from my refridgerator water dispenser and that uses a GE water filter. You must follow the directions and rinse off and soak the new filters before using or else you will get those little black particles.
