We've been using this model Brita filter since 2000. We used to get them at BJs, but I thought I'd try Amazon, and this 10 pack is the best deal we found on here, especially with the free shipping.
That said, this is the first time in history that we haven't had carbon particles in the add-water section of the pitcher. Supposedly, after you install the filter you'll get some carbon particles in the non-filtered section for a few fillings, and then it stops. I can say that in over 7 years, we've never had a filter that didn't leach particles (and I don't mean a picky 5 - 6 particles, but a bunch!). It's never affected the filtered water - just annoying to see them floating around when you add water to be filtered.
